- is the traditional word for
massage in the Japanese language. It was first introduced to Japan approximately
1500 years ago from China, where records of its existence go back even
earlier, to some 3000 years B.C.
When Amma was brought to Japan, the technique was further refined into
its own therapeutic art form. The amma techniques encompass a myriad of
pressing, stroking, stretching and percussive manipulations with the thumbs,
fingers, arms, elbows, knees and feet on acupressure points along the
body's major meridians. Amma brings to Western culture the ancient art
and wisdom of traditional Japanese massage. Through the structure of 'kata',
while there is no exact translation of the word the basic concept of the
kata has to do with the form or correct way by which something is accomplished.
Amma teaches the importance of rhythm, pacing, precision and form in massage.
Unlike Western massage, amma utilizes no oils and can be done through
clothing with the client either sitting up or lying down. This makes amma
an extremely flexible style of massage suitable to a wide variety of client
needs and environments.
- developed
in Japan, is a finger-pressure technique utilizing the traditional acupuncture
points of Oriental healing. Similar to acupressure, shiatsu concentrates
on unblocking the flow of life energy and restoring balance to the meridians
and organs, in order to promote self-healing. Shiatsu works on the principle
that disease is caused by a disturbance in the flow of energy through
the body. The practitioner applies pressure with the fingers, thumbs,
palms, elbows or knees to specific areas on the body located along the
energy meridians. The treatment brings about a sense of relaxation and
has the effect of stimulating the circulation, working on the nervous
system, helping to release toxins and deep-seated tension from the muscles.
The benefits of this treatment may include pain relief and a strengthening
of the body's resistance to disease and disorder. Treatment usually leaves
a feeling of calmness and well-being.
- originated
in Japan and is based on a traditional healing system. The aim of Amatsu
is to promote optimum health through all-round balance.
Each person’s needs are different and only your own body knows what
it needs. Amatsu uses this knowledge to re-awaken your body’s ability
to heal itself.
Treatment involves stimulation of various points to balance the body’s
energy system or gentle manipulation of the limbs may be used to restore
balance. Various other techniques may also be used.
Amatsu can help with most conditions, any pain or stress or if you are
feeling generally below par, or even feel like giving yourself a relaxing
treat.
